Internal Medicine

The internal medicine physician can be defined as the doctor of adults aged 16 and over.

Internal medicine specialist evaluates the general health status of the patient along with the patient’s complaints. Internal medicine specialist takes a holistic approach. Information about the occupation of the person, daily activities, sleeping habits, level of stress, exercises, weight condition, nutrition, digestion, stool and urine functions, family history, background and psychological condition is collected. Based on this data, the physician conducts comprehensive evaluation on the health status of the person by means of the tests that do not harm the person such as biochemical examination, EKG, ultrasound, chest X-ray after expectations of the person, his/her past and current lifestyle related complaints and history about these complaints are reviewed.

These evaluations are associated with wide range of diseases with different systems such as hypertension, diabetes, thyroid, gout, hypercholesterolemia, electrolyte disorders, vitamin deficiencies, kidney failure, coronary failure, respiratory failure, peptic ulcus, dyspepsia, fatty liver, liver function disorders, constipation, shortness of breath, cough, infectious diseases, rheumatic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, urinary problems, skin and allergy problems, dementia. Internal physician specialists exhibit comprehensive and holistic approach while dealing with these problems. The physician identifies the problems and applies treatment for those s/he deems appropriate. As for the complicated or suspected diseases, the physician gives information to the related sub-branch physician along with justifications. Then s/he monitors the patient with relevant branches at the polyclinic or home environment. This is a medical group positioned at the heart of health services.
